Shooting products on white is not a problem, but a request to match existing product photography on a black background... a challenge. I love the way the color pops on the black, the challenge is capturing the contours. Needless to say I enjoyed working with Jasmine, the owner of XXV Beauty on this project. We ended up doing this whole set on black and an alternate version on white for their Amazon store.
Needless to say that I'm very excited to have the opportunity to work with Bulgari, an international luxury jewelry brand based in Rome, Italy with roughly 300 stores located in only the most exclusive shopping areas around the world. My assignment was to capture "people" and the "Bulgari experience"...
A few selections from a recent head shot session with actress Stephanie Casebier. Stephanie booked a two hour session in studio to focus strictly on updated head shots for her and her agent. We also worked in a moving head shot which I've been doing a lot of.
When Dillan reached out to me with the idea of doing a fashion photography shoot at an airport my first thought was "how are we going to make this work?" It's not easy getting access to a fleet of privately owned planes. Needless to say, he came through and we ended up spending about four hours on site with two separate aircraft to work with, one Beechcraft and one LearJet.
Max called me up needing updates for his agency board. He booked two hours in the studio to concentrate on commercial looks so we shot a lot of options from casual to sophisticated. Funny thing is, the coffee mug idea was a quick "here, try this" proposal during our shoot. A couple weeks later, Max sent a message saying that he was just booked to model a commercial job for a name brand coffee company.
Julia and Lindsay, both represented by Ursula Wiedmann Models, came out for a simple outdoor session. By "simple" I mean we shot mostly natural light with minimal, if any, retouching. We started out at the park and finished up with a walk around Buckhead for some street looks.
Jess contacted me about needing some head shot updates for her agents. We decided to do a basic two hour head shot session in studio to give both her and her agents a variety of looks to consider. Four agents in four different regions chose a different shot. This is why I always recommend enough time to cover multiple looks during a session.
It's been a crazy couple of months so I thought I'd try to do a little catch up on the blog. Here are a few samples from a recent shoot with model Chris Rost of Ursula Wiedmann Models. When Chris told me he spends half his time in northern Alabama I decided to set up our session at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham. A quick phone call, a short liability form and small donation fee is all it took. Being the middle of the week, we pretty much had the place to ourselves and it was great to get out of Atlanta for a day.
I recently had the pleasure of hosting internationally published model Rachel Zehner in the studio for this editorial session focussing on gelled lighting. The light gels gave me the color I wanted so minimal post production was required to finish these off. Hair and makeup was done in studio by Grace Armas. Rachel is currently represented in the US by Ursula Wiedmann Models and Wilhelmina New York.
Haven't had much time for blog posts over the past couple months so I have some catching up to do. Here are a few selections from our session with Karen Powell of Ursula Weidmann Models. For Karen's session I wanted to do a clean white on white look to bring out the color of her hair. Natural hair and makeup look by Emily Walton.
Andi Dorfman visited the studio recently to shoot promos for her new t-shirt line offered exclusively for Southward Apparel. The request from Southward was to photograph Andi modeling her tee showing a couple different look variations. She showed up with hair and makeup ready so we were wrapped up in about an hour.
Lexie is an amazing young model represented by Ursula Wiedmann Models (UWM) here in Atlanta. She and her mother came by the studio recently for a multi look session with me and hair/makeup artist Grace Armas. This was a three hour session from setup to tear down, including hair and makeup. During that time we were able to fit in some clean beauty head shots and multiple wardrobe changes such as this soft hooded sweater, some fur and a beautiful patterned dress to finish up.
I've worked with Dillan a number of times this year and he's one of the nicest guys you could ever have at a shoot. He came out for a recent outdoor session at Arabia Mountain and here are a few single selections from his set. He stays busy concentrating on his acting and modeling career in addition to his own passion as a photographer, so I was very happy that he took time for this shoot.
I'm always thinking up photo ideas that I want to explore and I've been wanting to do a series of portraits with a mystic feel for quite a while. I was recently on a shoot with two amazing models at a great location and couldn't help but work these in. Working with strobes outdoors gives so much flexibility to balance out, or even overpower the natural sunlight. That's exactly what we did here.
This series was shot at around 11:30am on a partly cloudy day. Natural light is pretty harsh at this time of day so to compensate, I underexposed the background and the model is lit with a strobe in a 35" octabox just off camera. For the shot with the two of them, the main light is set on Dianna and there is a hand-held diffused speed light on Dillan. The foggy, misty look was enhanced in post.

Here are a few of my favorites from an outdoor session with Dianna Grant, represented here in Atlanta by Ursula Wiedmann Models (UWM). For this session we had a 6:30am call time and nearly a 1-mile hike from the cars to our shooting location. Hair, makeup and wardrobe assistance was done on site by Grace Armas.
We recently worked with actor and singer Sharon Leal to shoot editorial promotional portraits leading up to the release of her new single Giant and the feature film Addicted. The request was for a studio look but with Sharon's busy filming schedule we decided to mimic a studio setup on location.
Addicted, a film based on the novel by Zane, hit theaters on October 10th. Sharon Leal's EP featuring the single Giant is available for pre-order on iTunes.
